I’m listening to a podcast about this today.
My dad took over this shop in the 1970s and made it into a pet shop (Deptford Pets), which we ran for many years. I remember the fact that the upstairs was closed off and due to the murders it was considered out of bounds, but eventually my dad had it converted into a flat in the 1980s. It was a very successful business and we had a lot of fun there. Unfortunately my dad died at an early age in 1992, we kept the shop going for a couple of years but in the end his departure plus the arrival of Pet City put us out of business. Ironically Pet City has now gone.
Thank you for your comment and story about your connection to piece of history. I remember my Gran who lived in Albury St. telling us as kids not to be naughty as you might end up like the Stratton Bothers.
Thanks Andy (luckily you haven't!)
